Chantreys Chapel in Ilam Church

In the Chantrey Chapel at Ilam Church can be found this striking monument of a death-bed scene of David Pike Watts, surrounded by his daughter and her three young children. The Watts Russell family lived at Ilam Hall and were responsible for the architecture of the hall as well as the alpine style cottages and school in the village.

Monument to Godfrey Foljambe and wife at Bakewell church

Sitated in the South Aisle at Bakewell Church, is this internationally renowned alabaster monument to Sir Godfrey Foljambe and his wife. The figures were carved in 1385 and are about a foot tall, with folded hands, under an arch with coats of arms above. This is the only surving medieval example of a type of wall monument that became popular from the 16th century onwards.
