The church of St Leonard at Shirland in Derbyshire
The church of St Leonard
The church of St Leonard mostly dates from the 15th century. It has a diagonally buttressed west tower
with eight pinnacles on the battlements and the south porch is vaulted with a pointed
transverse arch.
There is a painting of the Crucifixion and St Mary Magdalen which is probably
North Italian work of the mid 15th century. An incised slab of John Revell, died 1537, and
his wife lies on a tomb chest with large cusped quatrefoils in the north aisle. There
is also a wall monument to another John Revell, who died in 1699, and his son William who died in 1706.
