The National Forest

The National Forest is an area of 200 square miles in central England where more than seven million trees have been planted in the last 10 years.

The National Forest is bringing together more than 400 new and ancient woodlands to create a new Forest for the nation. Woodland cover has almost trebled, creating new habitats for wildlife and making the area an ideal location for bird and wildlife watching and with more than 700 miles of paths to explore, the gentle undulating landscape is perfect for walking, cycling and horse-riding.

At the heart of the National Forst can be found the Conkers Discovery Centre Award winning attraction with a unique mix of indoor and outdoor experiences to keep you and your family engaged for hours

Indoors there are 4 discovery zones designed for children and adults of all ages. We also have a Tree Top Walk in the Discovery Centre and indoor play centre for children. There are 23 different outdoor activities, including lakeside walks, sculpture & nature trails, an assault course, train rides, playgrounds & water play! See Conkers

Also within the National Forest is the Rosliston Forestry Centre consisting of young woodland, meadows, gardens and ponds. Family fun for all with play areas, picnic areas, crazy golf, and much more. Many events are held at the centre. There's plenty of waymarked walks around the site so you can chose how far you want to go and what type of environments you want to discover on the way.

For anglers the Rolls-Royce Greenheart Lake, tucked away on the southern edge of the site, is very generously stocked. Day permits are available and pre-booking is essential if you want to make an early start.

Adult and children's cycles are available each day to hire. Get on your bike for anything from just an hour to a whole day. You can use our surfaced two hours paths or for the more adventurous try the grassy routes around the perimeter. See Rosliston Forestry Centre
