| Window Tax avoidance in Stanton Some of the windows in this house in Stanton in the Peak, were probably removed to avoid paying the punitive Window Tax of 1697. |
|
| Coffin Lid in Wirksworth Embedded into an interior wall in Wirksworth Church, this stone was originally the cover of a sarcophogus dating back to around 800AD. Found in 1820, it is perhaps the most interesting sculptural remains of its period, in the country. There are 40 stumpy figures depicting the life of Christ. |
